“This is the most comfortable approach shoe I have ever worn that also climbs like a champ. The Boulder X comes from a long history in the La Sportiva line up and this shoe improves and has built on its ancestry. The padding in this shoe is what puts it above its competitors. The Vibram® Idro-Grip rubber is some of the stickiest I have ever used in an approach shoe.” –Colorado Mountain School

For the purpose these shoes are meant, these are great – I’ve had approach shoes from Evolve, 5.10, and Scarpa, and these climb better than all of them and are more stable on the trail. The toebox is a bit narrow and closer to a climbing shoe than any of the others i’ve tried. They are full leather and very durable.

There are some tradeoffs that go along with a shoe like this though – They are not a sneaker and not an every day comfortable shoe – for that check out the 5.10 guide tennie. They also are pretty hot and don’t breath well.

If you’re looking for a shoe you can hike to the cliff and climb hard in, these are tough to beat.

These are the best shoes I have ever owned. I purchased these because I like a hard soled shoe. These are hiking shoes and I would not recommend running in these on a hard surface. I wear hiking socks all the time and wear these as sneakers. With the thicker socks they feel like supportive slippers. I have used these daily for 10 months. In the first month or so they leave little black marks everywhere so wear them outside only at first. I still have about another 6~8 months of wear before they will need to be resoled. They do not come on and off as fast as sneakers but they hug your feet without any pinch points.
These are by far the best shoes for the money I have ever found.
